Common Errors in English
Language errors are deviations from standard grammar rules. They fall into two basic categories, written and spoken. In addition, they include cross-cultural misunderstandings related to body language such as mimics, gestures and posture, linguistic pragmatics, etiquette and ethics. Written errors usually include spelling, word choice, punctuation, style, structure of text and grammatical forms. Spoken errors usually include pronunciation, intonation, stress and rhythm. In language teaching error analysis studies the types and causes of language errors. Errors are classified according to modality (i.e. level of proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, listening), linguistic levels (i.e. pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, style), form (e.g. omission, insertion, substitution), type (systematic errors/errors in competence vs. occasional errors/errors in performance), cause (e.g. interference, interlanguage), norm vs. system [retrieved from Wikipedia - the Free Encyclopaedia, http:/ /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Error_analysis].
